Dear Unity Friends,
Independence is freedom! It is a space of being without bondage, limitation or repression. Independence
comes by aligning one's life according to Principle, not according to the thoughts, words, or actions of
others. Independence is a sense of complete well-being. F.L. Rawson once wrote, "Man has no free will (no freedom) whatsoever, until he learns how to think rightly."
The first national flag had thirteen stars and thirteen bars. The bars symbolize union and oneness, and the constellation of thirteen stars
symbolizes thirteen independent states. We can assign a metaphysical interpretation to these stars, our original states of being, recognizing
them as thirteen areas of awareness. Virginia represents love, Massachusetts – freedom, New Hampshire – beauty, New Jersey –
industriousness, New York – growth, Maryland – abundance, Rhode Island – perseverance, Connecticut – fundamental order, Delaware –
peace, North Carolina – strength, South Carolina – positive awareness, Pennsylvania (from the word, commonwealth) – well-being, and Georgia – independence.
We can embody all these characteristics in ourselves and in our affairs. As citizens living them in our daily lives, we will set an example for our
government, thereby raising our leaders' abilities to govern and serve in the manner intended by our forefathers. May your celebrations be safe ones. With thanksgiving, Rev. Robin |
