In the Spirit of Love

Dear Unity Friends,

The second power of the Twelve Powers chart is love.  Love is our ability to know oneness with all people and things.  Love is the emotion that jump starts creation.  It heals; it harmonizes; it renews; it prospers; it draws together all the right pieces and parts, and unitizes the creation energy into substance.

The Scottish scientist and minister, Henry Drummond, said in his classic little book, Love:The Greatest Thing in the World, "You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love."

The true gift of love comes not when we are loved, but when we are loving.  As children we loved our stuffed animals.  These furry creatures could not love us back.  What we felt when we hugged them was the love that was inside of us.  The happiest people on earth are the people who know love is the answer and express it often.

As Unity in Community prepares our new building for our first Sunday service, we share our love with each other in many ways.  Last Saturday fifteen people came together with buckets, rags, and rubber gloves to clean and scrub.  This was love in action.  Soon more people will bring paint and brushes and rollers and put a fresh look on the walls.  (The first painting party is scheduled for September 15th).  Others will bring items they have found at yard sales and stores to help furnish our rooms.  Many will send their monetary gifts to buy sanctuary chairs and sound equipment.  All of these actions are love.

The decisions we make regarding our individual lives also need a dose of love to carry them through.  If it weren't for the sharing of love, why would we get up in the morning?  Our families need us to provide for them.  We love them, so we work.  People need what we have to share.  We love them, so we share our talents, our time, our friendship, our resources.  All these acts are our demonstrations of love.

Take a moment and remember a favorite toy you loved as a child.  Now allow that same feeling of love to move through you and out of you toward the people and situations in your life.  In this moment, you just loved your world.

Namaste`
