I Stand in Sacred Space

Dear Unity Friends,

In the book, "Black Eagle Speaks,"  an old Plains Indian  man tells of how he received a great vision when he was nine years old.  At age nine, he became sick and fell into a coma.  His people thought he was dead, yet he still breathed.  While in the coma state he had a vision that showed him that the sacred way of his people would soon be lost.  In the vision he was also shown how to save the sacred way.  In this coma, he was taken to the top of Harney Peak in the Black Hills of Dakota.  His people considered this to be the center of the world, their most sacred ground.  While on top of the mountain, Black Eagle realized that everywhere was the center of the world and wherever he stood, he was standing in sacred space.

When we turn inward with our prayer and meditation time, we begin to define the world around us from a different perspective.  This simple practice of taking time to pay attention and calm our thoughts causes us to surrender to loving kindness, which ultimately shows up in our words, our actions, and the movements of our minds.

Wherever we go for the rest of our lives, we will always be in the center of the universe.  As we recognize that all things are sacred, even the things we might label as "bad" become gifts for our journey.  And all people who step into the sacred space of our lives become our teachers.

Through our meditation practice we turn away from our self-concerns and embrace the miracle of life.

Namaste,
Robin
