Dear Unity Friends,

At this current economic time, a person can't turn on the news or pick up a newspaper without being told that "times are tough," "there's not enough to go around," "we're in recession," "watch out for rising prices." The statements of gloom and doom are all around us, bombarding us, and infiltrating our consciousness.

As students of positive, practical Christianity, let us decide and declare to be different. We have the teachings of Jesus to show us the way to an experience of bounty and plenty.

"And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain; when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him; and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying," (Matt. 5:1-2)

When Jesus saw the multitude, he did not sigh, complain, or talk of financial lack. Instead he went up into the mountain, called his disciples, and taught them with words.

When we have a financial need, challenge, or concern, instead of talking negatively about it, let us "go up into the mountain."  This means, let us go to a higher consciousness, a higher thought. We do this by reading and studying and meditating and talking along the lines of prosperous ideas. This lifts us into a prosperous state of mind. Then we "call our disciples." Metaphysically this means our thoughts and feelings. Our thoughts are under our control. They are in our minds. We think them. Let us take control of them and choose what they will be. And then, let us teach them. Jesus taught with his words. We, too, can teach our minds with our words. Catherine Ponder tells us in The Millionaire from Nazareth, "Thoughts and words of abundance will more quickly and surely bring what is yours by divine right to you than any other method."

Instead of listening to and repeating the bad news of the day, let us turn to affirmative prayer, decreeing, "I AM BEAUTIFULLY AND APPROPRIATELY SUPPLIED WITH EVERY GOOD FROM GOD NOW."

Let us be a spiritual community that believes what it teaches and let us practice those teachings in tough times as well as easy times. God told the Jewish people in Malachi to "prove me now." He didn't say when things get better, when the stock market turns, or when gas prices come down. God said, "NOW!" The Infinite Power of the God of Malachi is the same Infinite Power in our lives today. Let us not place our faith in nay-sayers. Let us place our faith in the promises of God.
