What is atop your Christmas tree? It is an angel? A star? Or some other bright and shiny ornament? An angel
does sit atop the Volker tree. In years past when something else adorned that spot of honor on our tree, I always felt
like something was missing. Finally, I realized I needed to have an angel at the top of our Christmas tree; nothing else would do.
Metaphysically, angels are "winged thoughts" or ideas inspired of God. Angels have starring roles in the Christmas
story. It was a "winged thought" that came to Mary and told her that she would bear a holy child. A "winged thought"
descended upon Joseph to instruct him to take care of Mary and the baby, appearing again and again with more instruction to keep the new family safe.
"Winged thoughts" visited the shepherds in the field proclaiming the first noel, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men….
During the Christmas Season we sing unabashedly about angels. This month, our meditation song each Sunday at Unity in Community will tell of feeling the brush of angels' wings as we proclaim
surely the presence of the Lord is with us. And "It's Wonderful Life" will remind us that, "Every time a bell rings; an angel gets its wings."
When we lift our voices to sing about angels, let us invite in the "winged thoughts" from our Christ Being, becoming willing to see our lives from a higher perspective.
The Angel of the Lord told the shepherds, Do not be afraid; I bring you good news of a great joy…. As we embrace our angels, good news will
surround us and ordinary situations will be transformed into empowering, wonder-filled events.
Rick and I know that for you this holiday season the "winged thoughts" coming to you will be thoughts of hope, peace, love, and joy. All good
things will be brought to your life through the power of the Christ Child Within you and made real by the inspiration (in spirit) of our angelic friends and companions.
Happy Holidays!
