Have you ever been in a situation where someone or something was driving you crazy?
The solution to the problem seems a "no-win" for you and maybe for everyone involved. It is easy to feel like a victim when someone or something is hurting us, and we feel that
we have little, if any, control over the outcome. At times like this it is important to remember we cannot control other people's behavior. We never could, and we never will. If
we thought we ever had control, it was a fleeting myth.
Somehow we get stuck thinking that if the person, or someone with power over the
person, only understood our situation then change would be forthcoming. The only change that can come is the change within us. Paul told us in my favorite of all Bible
verses, "Be ye therefore transformed by a renewing of your mind." I can change my thinking. I can change my reaction. I can change my focus from victim to victor.
It is easy to get caught up in the push-pulls of life. It happens to all of us from time to time. Every day we have the opportunity to choose again - to start over - to do a "re-do."
Every day we can "disengage" from our problem, and when we do, we begin to re-gain our power and sense of centeredness. A Course in
Miracles teaches us to "rise above the battlefield." By returning to our commitment to our spiritual practice of prayer and meditation, we sort
through the ego issues of life. We learn to steady ourselves with a sure and confident connection to Spirit. With practice we find happiness,
peace, and fulfillment that bloom from inside of us, and we become less and less driven by external forces or factors.
This week - disengage the external and engage the eternal.
AFFIRMATION – Today, I choose to be happy.
QUOTE - Abraham Lincoln said that "Most people are about as happy as they make their minds up to be."
