Hello Unity Friends, What does 10-2-4 mean? Those well-known Dr Pepper numbers of 10, 2 and 4 weren't selected at random. They represent the times of day when the human body needs a little "pick-me-up" to
avoid an energy slump. It was in the 1920s that Dr. Walter Eddy at Columbia University studied the body's metabolism. He discovered that a natural drop in energy occurs about 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30
p.m. But he also discovered that if the people in his research study had something to eat or drink at 10, 2 and 4, the energy slump could be avoided. After Dr. Eddy's research findings were released,
Dr Pepper challenged its advertising agency to come up with a theme which would suggest that Dr Pepper should be that 10, 2 and 4 drink which would keep the energy level up. The result was one of the most
enduring of Dr Pepper's advertising themes: "Drink a bite to eat at 10, 2 and 4." Today, most of my readership would not choose a sugary, syrupy, caffeine-filled soda for a pick-me-up. Yet,
we can use the 10-2-4 slogan to support not only our bodies, but our minds and spirits as well. When we reach for our organic carrots, Clif bars, or fruit smoothies, we can take a "prayer
break" in our busy lives for a moment of reflection and prayer. Just as a nutritional break re-energizes our bodies, a prayer break re-energizes our minds and spirits.
What would a "prayer break" look like? Maybe you can carry The Daily Word
in your pocket or purse. Maybe you want to close your eyes and focus on your breath. Maybe you can take a walk around the office building for a bit of fresh air. Each prayer break can be different. Be creative and experiment with what works best for you.
Why not give the idea a try this week? At 10:00, 2:00, and 4:00 reach for a healthy snack for your body and give your mind and spirit five minutes to realign with God. Notice how your body,
mind, and spirit feel afterwards. I would love to hear the results of your experiment. Abundant Blessings, Robin |
